"Davis Hawksworth Architects Ltd" was formed in mid 1999 as a formalisation of a partnership that had begun in 1995 when Jonathan Hawksworth joined the Mt Eden office of Tony Davis. "Anthony Davis Architects" had been operating since 1989 and the combination of Tony's and Jonathan's design talents has continued to deliver built architecture in a wide range of project types and project sizes.

Our Mt Eden Road office serves our clients in the greater Auckland area while our Paihia office, opened in early 2005, serves our clients in the Bay of Islands and the Far North.

As a small firm we pride ourselves in providing a personal service to all our clients. We view our client base as our most valuable asset and strive to serve our clients in the best way possible to ensure expectations are always met, if not exceeded. This approach is carried throughout the process from initial sketch designs to the over-seeing and completion of the project. The process of creating a building can be daunting at times with the consents and approvals that must be obtained, tendering and such like, and we hope that our involvement can make this road a little smoother.

We believe that the success of a building project is achieved with honest communication between all parties at all times. This applies from the earliest stages of discussions between the Architect and client when determining the brief, through to open communication between the Architect, the client and the contractor during the building stages. This honesty will ensure that all issues are identified and resolved before having the chance to detrimentally affect the success of the project. This success can be gauged at the completion of the building if the owner, the architect and the builder can walk away with mutual admiration and an overwhelming pride in their collective accomplishment.

The two principals of the firm are Registered Architects Tony Davis and Jonathan Hawksworth and they have been working together for the past ten years.

Tony Davis graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Auckland in 1980 with a Bachelor of Architecture and went on to work in a number of diverse areas before setting up his own practice in New Plymouth in 1983. He also worked for a leading New Plymouth firm before moving to Auckland in 1986 to work for the practice of Rigby James and Partners. Unfortunately the demise of that firm following the 1987 crash was the catalyst for Tony to again set up his own business of "Anthony Davis Architects". This was the name he operated under until he and Jonathan formed Davis Hawksworth Architects Ltd in 1999.

Jonathan Hawksworth graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Auckland in 1993 with a Bachelor of Architecture. After spending two years travelling and running a small furniture making business he joined Anthony Davis Architects at the end of 1995. He worked with Tony as a Project Architect until 1999 when he became a partner of Davis Hawksworth Architects Ltd.
